The Daily Grind
Well six months at the Oliver Club has flown by. When I first stepped into this space, I knew I had the skills, but I also understood that being a barber here would push me in new ways, both professionally and personally. The Oliver Club isn’t just a barber shop; it’s an environment built on precision, culture, and high standards. It’s a place where every cut, every conversation, and every detail matters.
In these few months I’ve focused on two ideas to hone and develop: confidence and patience. Confidence in my hands, my vision, and my ability to execute. Confidence that will be built through repetition, through failures, and through small wins that stack up over time. Patience because in this industry, it’s easy to want everything at once, fully booked days, a loyal clientele, and mastery of every technique. I’ve had to remind myself that every great barber had to start somewhere. Every quiet day, every cut that challenged me beyond belief is simply part of the process.
Both of these practices also extend into each service, I have to have the confidence in my ability and skills before the cut even begins to know that I’m going to deliver a one of a kind experience. But I have to utilize my patience and not expect that a cut is going to be perfect after one swipe of my clipper. Every haircut is a one of a kind creation and journey, techniques overlap and styles may be similar, but each service brings with it its own challenges and I have to be patient in finding them, and overcoming them.
My mindset now is focused on elevation, I want to keep growing my client base, refining my skills, and making the Oliver Club a place where people don’t just come for a haircut but for an experience they can’t get anywhere else. I also want to keep pushing myself outside of my comfort zone, whether that’s with new techniques, networking, or finding those ways to add more value to each and every client who sits in my chair. These next six months are going to be something special.
