Winter Solstice Negroni

A warming, seasonal variation of the classic Negroni, featuring winter spices and citrus.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Gin (e.g., Tanqueray No. Ten or Beefeater)

  • 1 oz Sweet Vermouth (e.g., Carpano Antica)

  • 1 oz Spiced Winter Aperitivo*

  • Dash of Orange Bitters

  • Garnish: Clove-studded orange slice

Chill a rocks glass.

In a mixing glass, combine gin, sweet vermouth, spiced winter aperitivo, and orange bitters. Add ice and stir until well-chilled.

Strain into the chilled glass over a large ice cube.

Garnish with a clove-studded orange slice for added aromatics.

Spiced Winter Aperitivo
To make your own spiced aperitivo, combine a bottle of Campari with the following spices and let it steep for 24-48 hours:

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 3-4 star anise

  • 1 tsp whole cloves

  • 1/2 tsp allspice berries

  • Zest of 1 orange

Strain and store for use in winter cocktails.
